BE counselling likely to be delayed due to bewilderment with NEET

Due to confusion over NEET results and the delay with admission schedule of MBBS, it is likely that engineering counselling that was scheduled to get started on 27th June is likely to get postponed.

For engineering counselling this year, about 1.4 lakh applications are received at the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions Committee. On Tuesday, the 20th June, today, random number for applicants will be assigned, and the rank list will be issued on 22nd June, Thursday.

On 26th June, NEET exam results are likely to be announced. Till now, MBBS or BDS course applications are not received. Because of this delay in issuing applications for MBBS, the TNEA authorities are perplexed without knowing whether or not to finalize the engineering counselling schedule.

Regarding the counselling schedule, the higher education secretary, Sunil Paliwal has had several discussion rounds with officials.

The only choice left with the TNEA is to postpone counselling. This is because there will be several vacant seats if the counselling is held before that of MBBS. All these seats cannot be filled or left vacant.

In general, engineering counselling follows the first phase of MBBs counselling. By scheduling this way, the universities can prevent vacancies in seat in top universities like the College of Engineering, Guindy.

A lot of students who get enrolled with CEG or other colleges switch to MBBS during 2nd year.
