Interest towards core engineering branches dwindle

This year, the interest shown towards core engineering branches like civil engineering has dwindled. The reasons may be the dream to get better pay package they may enjoy with the other courses, better campus placements and peer influence.
Among all the core branches, civil engineering seats were the least filled during the first week of engineering counselling. As on Sunday, just 10 percent of seats were taken. On the other hand, other courses like Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science Engineering were grabbed twice the number compared to Civil Engineering.
Almost half of the total biotechnology seats were grabbed during counselling. However, students have not shown much interest towards Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Electronics Instrumentation. The second most chosen course is mechanical engineering, but this has left with a lot of vacancies this year.
A lot of students opt for CSE and ECE departments under the management quota. Principal of a popular engineering college says students are not ready to take the words even if they are told that the core branches provide equal opportunities.
The placement range of CSE and EEE students are equally 90 percent. And there were equal opportunities between civil and mechanical engineering as well.
