Anna University to organise and conduct a common entrance test for ME/M Tech courses

The vice-chancellor of Anna University, M. K. Surappa, has announced that the common entrance Examination ‘TANCET’ (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) will be organised and conducted by Anna University for this year as well.
With this the confusion among the students whether they would need to write the 2nd entrance examination has been resolved.
There was a sudden announcement by Anna University last week that it proposed to conduct a special entrance examination for admission to the courses of ME. M Tech, MCA, and MBA offered by its member colleges. Subsequently, there was confusion among the students regarding what is the procedure for other colleges other the Anna University and who will conduct TANCET, and the sates for the same!
The differences of opinion between the Tamil Nadu State Government Department of Higher Education and Anna University started with the issue of the counselling for admission to the engineering courses BE and B Tech. Generally, the vice-chancellor of Anna University will be the Chairman of the Engineering College Admission Council. However, for the academic year 2019-20, the State Government Department of Higher education made a change and released an order.  As per this, the Director of the Technical Education was appointed as the Chairman of the Admission Council. Subsequently, M K Surappa, vice-chancellor, Anna University informed that he has quit the job as Chairman of the admission council. The Department of Higher Education accepted this.
Subsequently, the responsibility of conducting the counselling for admission to the engineering courses has been entrusted to the Directorate of Technical Education.

This development led to a lot of questions –
Whether the Directorate will also conduct TANCET for admission to postgraduate engineering courses or whether Anna University will conduct it
Whether a separate entrance test is needed to write for admission to colleges under Anna University for the postgraduate courses and another separate test for admission to the colleges not under Anna University, thus making way for 2 entrance examinations
In this scenario, the state government department of higher education advised Anna University to avoid the confusion of 2 entrance examinations and to continue organising TANCET as the single common entrance examination for admissions to postgraduate courses. Subsequently, a consultative and review meeting regarding TANCET was organised by Anna University under the leadership of its vice-chancellor M K Surappa.
After this meeting, the vice-chancellor announced that Anna University will conduct TANCET this year as well. So, the common entrance test recently announced by Anna University gets cancelled and will not be conducted.
