As there are issues to be settled regarding NEET, there are difficulties encountered to commence the counselling sessions for admission to the engineering courses in Tamil Nadu.
The central government has ordered that all the students who have completed +2 and seeking to join medical courses must pass in NEET (National Eligibiliy-cum-Entance Test), NEET was conducted throughout the country on 7th May.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu state government had passed a petition in the Legislative Assembly seeking exemption from NEET. Howevr, the President’s approval for the same has not been given yet.
In this situation, a number of petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court regarding NEET. Judgments are yet to be given on these petitions. So, the health ministry of Tamil Nadu is not in a position to decide as to how to conduct the counselling for the medical courses.
As the dates for medical courses counselling are not yeat announced, this has affected the department of higher education to decide on the dates for counselling for joining engineering courses. The process of online applications for engineering courses is completed and the applications are being scrutinized. Random numbrs will beallotted and released on 20th June.
The merit list is scheduled to be released on 22nd June. The Engineering Counselling Committee has decided to commence the counselling for the candidates who excel in sports. However, if the dates for medical counselling is postponed, it will subsequently lead to the postponement of the counselling for engineering counselling as well.
The officials explained the situation: In case counselling for engineering course is conducted ahead of the medical courses counselling, some of the students who join engineering courses may leave the course if they get admission in medical courses later. This may lead to a situation where more than 1000 seats for engineering courses will remain unfilled.
At the same time, the Supreme Court has ordered that the counselling for the engineering courses must be completed before 31st July, So, there is a tight situation in making any progress.
