Tamil Nadu Agricultural University graduation course name changed

The graduation courses in agriculture (B. Sc.) offered in the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore and the colleges functioning under it are being changed to B. Sc. (Honours).

The various courses offered by the Agricultural Universities in the country include – B. Sc. in agriculture, horticulture, sericulture, forestry, food nutrition and dietics. Now, the course name is changed as B. Sc. (Honours) in agriculture, horticulture, sericulture, forestry, food nutrition and dietics.

The Dean of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and the Head of the Department of Admissions, Mr. S. Mahimairaja, explained that the demand for agricultural graduates has increased over the years – not only in the field of agriculture, but also in Science, Construction, banking, and other fields.

Meanwhile, the All India Agricultural Council has decided that the name of the courses offered in this field to be changed to B. Sc. (Honours) in all the universities and colleges offering presently B. Sc. (Agriculture) and other 4 faculties as mentioned above. It has ordered the agricultural universities to go ahead with the change immediately.

Most of the universities have decided to change the course name to B. Sc. (Honours) from this academic year itself.

The counselling for admission to these courses in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University for the academic year 2017-18 has started. The University has already started mentioning the course as B. Sc. (Honours) for all 5 faculties.

Though there is no major change in the syllabus the merit and value of these courses will go up after this change of name.

This change of name would also easily facilitate pursuing higher courses or national-level employment opportunities.

The Agricultural Research Scientists will be selected from throughout the country on behalf of the National Agricultural Scientists selection Board.

In this process, priority will be accorded to the candidates who have completed B. Sc. (Honours) courses. Thus, the change of name of the course would indeed prove beneficial to the students who join.
