SC gives its nod to IIT-JEE counselling

On Monday, the Supreme Court has lifted the stay imposed on admitting students into colleges including Indian Institute of Technology, NITs and other colleges. This has relieved thousands of students who have written the joint entrance examination.
On Friday, the court had put hold for admitting students in the IITs, National Institutes of Technology and a few other colleges for the reason of awarding extra marks in JEE which is an all-India examination for all engineering aspirants. It had dismissed all the petitions that challenged the award of grace marks, and the court said such sort of printing errors should not be made.
To all the students who took up the exam to get enrolled to engineering colleges after those printing errors found in the question paper, bonus marks were given. Two students had filed a petition where it had sought revision of the list of successful students without including the bonus marks. The entrance exam was conducted by IIT-Madras. Petitioners who had cleared the exam have mentioned their ranking present in the merit list includes the bonus marks and this will resist them in getting the preferred college as per their choice.
