Interest towards B.Ed course dwindles

Among B.E. graduates, the interest shown towards B.Ed course is dwindling. It is clearly seen with just 40 out of 81 applicants who have selected to choose seats on Wednesday.
After observing very poor response with the BE graduates during last academic year, the total seats is reduced from 20 to 10 percent this year.
In the Tamil Nadu B.Ed. admissions, the committee has sorted out a total of 121 seats for BE graduates for math, physics and chemistry. Out of this, only 81 applications are received that is 90 percent less as compared to last year.
Over 150 BE graduates had applied for B.Ed. counselling last year and 69 of them have got selected during counselling process.
Furthermore, the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) has relaxed norms and lets BE graduates take up the 2 year B.Ed. course in 2015. Following this, from the department of higher education, the guidelines for reserving about 20 percent seats for physics and math course is issued.
In spite of the reservation given by the higher education department, we are unable to get equivalence certificate for B.E. degree along with the other courses such as B.Sc. Chemistry or B.Sc. Math.
